Current Feedback Op Amps: Tips for Best Performance
August 20, 2003, Online Seminar

Overview:
For many applications current feedback amplifiers offer distinct advantages over more the more conventional voltage feedback amplifiers.  These applications include video switching and buffering, driving large signals over cables, amplifying RF and IF signals and buffering analog to digital converters.

There are a few simple principals for getting the best performance from current feedback amplifiers.

This seminar describes the basic topology of current feedback amplifiers, the main reasons for using them, and the VIP 10 process.  Also covered are tips for best performance, selection criteria and trouble shooting sections will be followed by a highlighting of the current suite of high speed current feedback amplifiers offered by National Semiconductor.

Presenter:
Loren Siebert is an Applications Engineer with National Semiconductor.  Prior to working in the semiconductor industry Loren spent 11 years as a Wireless Systems engineer in the cellular industry.  Loren has a BSEE from the University of Michigan and is also a licensed amateur radio operator with the callsign KI0DU.

Topics covered in this online seminar include:

  • What is current feedback?
  • Why use current feedback?
  • What is the VIP 10 process?
  • Optimum Performance
  • How do I chose an Op amp?
  • Troubleshooting
