National Semiconductor CEO Brian Halla to Deliver Major Keynote Address at Comdex; National, Microsoft and Other Partners Preview Smart Displays and New Wireless Handhelds

National Will Also Unveil Geode Extended Office (GXO) and Demo 20 New Consumer Products that Will Drive the Next Technology Wave

COMDEX--Las Vegas, NV-November 15, 2002 - Headlining a full schedule of activities, National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:NSM) CEO Brian Halla will deliver a provocative keynote address at Comdex where National, Microsoft and 20 technology partners preview new Smart Displays and wireless consumer devices for the next technology boom.
 
Halla's keynote starts Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 3 PM.  In his speech, "The Next Technology Wave…You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet," Halla will outline the next technology boom and provide examples of the consumer, medical and security applications that are driving new markets -- and saving lives. He will also discuss the visionary projects that National has embarked upon with Microsoft and key OEMs to deliver smart displays and other personalized technology services to consumers.

National will also unveil a new conceptual product --- the Geode Extended Office (GXO) -- powered by National's Geode?rocessor technology and surrounded by National's cutting-edge analog circuitry. National's GXO provides road warriors with "any time, anywhere access" to their corporate data in a super-PDA-sized device that features a sleek industrial design, 6-inch color TFT display, Windows XP Operating System and advanced wireless connectivity.

LG Electronics Inc., NEC Electronics, Wyse Technology and Tatung Co. are all partnering with National to demonstrate their Windows-powered Smart Displays at Comdex. Smart Displays are wireless touch screen monitors that let you use your home computer from anywhere in the house. Scheduled for official launch in 2003, the new wireless smart displays feature the richness of Microsoft's XP Professional operating system, the hardware expertise of each manufacturer, and the high performance, low power requirements of National's reference design.

National will also showcase the latest information access and wireless technologies including:

  • Wireless phones from Sony Ericsson, Panda and Kyocera  
  • Thin Clients from HP and Wyse  
  • A Set-Top Box with digital video recording from Matsushita  
  • The HP iPAQ Pocket PC h5400  
  • Bluetooth™ wireless technology-demos of the HP Deskjet 450 mobile printer

Catch the wave with Halla Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 3 PM, in Hall C5 of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

PANEL DISCUSSION:
Mike Polacek, VP of National Semiconductor's Information Appliance Group, will discuss "The Critical Role of Broadband in the Digital Lifestyle" in a special panel at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18 in Room N264 .The session will be moderated by Tim Bajarin, a leading market analyst and founder and president of Creative Strategies.

EVENING EVENTS:
At two evening events attendees can see demos of the latest consumer products featuring National Semiconductor technologies:

  • MobileFocus: Mirage Hotel, Sunday, Nov. 17 from 7 to 10 PM  
  • PressClub: Four Seasons Hotel from Monday, Nov. 18 from 4:30 to 8 PM
