August 26, 2002 - National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:NSM) today announced that its Bluetooth wireless personal area network (WPAN) module, the LMX9814, has achieved v1.1 certification from the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) following the successful completion of testing. The LMX9814 is one of the industry's smallest complete Bluetooth solutions, measuring just 10.1 by 14 by 1.9 mm. It is ideal for portable applications such as mobile phones, PDAs and laptop PCs, as well as desktop computing, printer and scanner products.
"Achieving Bluetooth certification for the LMX9814 WPAN module is a key step to enable our customers to implement Bluetooth in their products," said Jim Benefer, product marketing manager for National's wireless division. "The LMX9814 is a self-contained Bluetooth node in a radio screened metal package. Its high level of integration makes the module ideal for customers less comfortable with radios and those who wish to get to market quickly, with very low risk."
About the Bluetooth WPAN Module
The LMX9814 is based on National's LMX5250 CMOS radio and LMX5100 baseband processor. In addition to full Bluetooth (V1.1) capabilities, the LMX9814 integrates Flash memory for customer firmware upgrades, front end filtering, receive/transmit switching, localized supply voltage decoupling, and USB and UART host control interfaces. The LMX9814 employs an external antenna and can accept a wide range of system clocks from 10 to 26MHz, thereby supporting the majority of applications with minimal real-estate, cost and power consumption. The LMX9814 supports Bluetooth Class 2/3 transmit power levels, which specify a nominal transmit power of up to +4dBm.
The LMX9814 is currently sampling with beta customers and is priced at $15 in 10K quantities.
