August 19, 2002—National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE: NSM) today announced that its industry-leading Geode™ technology has been designed into the powerful new Winterm™ 3125SE next-generation thin client from Wyse Technology. The Wyse Winterm 3125SE, powered by the single-chip Geode processor, delivers enhanced manageability, security and wireless capabilities. Thin-client technology or server-based computing is designed to provide easy IT maintenance, security and connectivity at a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) than PCs.
Wyse Technology’s new Winterm 3125SE is powered by Microsoft Windows CE .NET and features Wyse’s custom optimization of the Windows CE .NET operating system as well as National Semiconductor’s latest single-chip Geode processor. The Geode processor is integrated in a plastic package for optimal performance and power consumption at the most attractive price. Wyse’s new powerful thin-client device provides a 30 percent performance improvement over previous Windows CE models, extensive legacy connectivity, wireless networking and a sleek and small form factor.
“National Semiconductor’s Geode technology continues to drive the thin-client market with its unmatched level of performance, power consumption and price,” said Ziv Azmanov, director of the thin client business unit at National Semiconductor. “National Semiconductor and Wyse Technology, the market leaders in thin-client technology, work hand-in-hand to create next-generation thin-client devices that dramatically improve productivity and data security for enterprises.”
”Our relationship with National Semiconductor has been a positive factor in Wyse’s ability to push the envelope on design and performance of our Winterm thin clients,” said Brad Rowland, director of product management at Wyse. “National’s Geode technology allows Wyse to achieve our goal of bringing affordable thin-client computing to market. National continues to be the best chip partner in the thin-client space with their dedication to cost reduction and performance improvements.”
National Semiconductor’s single-chip Geode processor, housed in a thermally enhanced plastic ball grid array (PBGA) package or TEPBGA, includes a Geode GX1 32-bit x86 compatible processor module; a TV video processor (SC1200, SC1210), TFT (SC2200), and CRT (SC3200) outputs; memory controller; graphics controller; video input and output ports; core logic with support for PCI, USB and IDE devices; and a Super I/O block – all on a single low power, low cost device. It is by far the most cost effective, lowest power thin-client silicon solution that is available on the market today.
