May 7, 2002 - National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE: NSM) and 3e Technologies International, Inc. (3eTI) today announced their collaboration to deliver new Wireless Gateway solutions. Powered by National's industry-leading Geode? technology to achieve high performance and expandability, the 3e-500 Family of Wireless Gateways from 3eTI is designed to address users' specific, mission-critical needs in small office/home office (SOHO), factories, enterprise facilities, and military/industrial applications such as Navy ships and nuclear power plants.
"3eTI's new offering provides users with one of the most reliable and easy-to-use wireless gateway solutions available today, and National's high performance and low power Geode technology makes it possible," said Ziv Azmanov, director of thin client business unit at National Semiconductor.
The 3e-500 Family of Wireless Gateways is the first, fully functional 802.11b wireless LAN solutions and integrates the highest levels of 802.1X security while delivering industry-leading throughput/performance. It features a modular design, making it protocol-independent, and allows users to implement new, emerging wireless technologies as they become available (i.e. 802.11g, 802.11a, 802.11h, etc.) without replacing the entire gateway. For every environment, it provides users with performance of 4.8 Mbps with 128-bit WEP encryption enabled, which is among the industry's best. 3e-500 Family of Wireless Gateways provides wireless MAC address filtering for access restriction, as well as Layer 3, IP address packet filtering. For increased protection, the Gateways support VPN security and will offer 3DES and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) in the near future.
"By using the Geode technology in our 3e-500 Family of Wireless Gateways, 3e Technologies International is providing our customers with a leading-edge wireless networking tool that provides unmatched flexibility and functionality, while incorporating the reliability our customers expect," said Steven Chen, President and CEO of 3e Technologies International, Inc. "The 3e-500 Family of Wireless Gateways offers customers a complete networking solution with the highest available security and performance, along with support for all major wired and wireless protocols. National Semiconductor's Geode SC3200 processors allow us to deliver all of this functionality within the smallest possible footprint."
3eTI's 3e-500 Family of Wireless Gateways uses National's Geode processors to deliver the smallest and most functional wireless networking solution available. The processors are members of National's Information Appliance-on-a-chip family of fully-integrated x86 processors. These single-chip system solutions include a Geode GX1 32-bit x86 compatible processor, a TFT video processor, core logic and selected Super I/O functions. These features, combined with the small form factor and low-power consumption, make it ideal as the core of the 3eTI's new Wireless Gateways.
The 3e-500 Family of Wireless Gateways is the only 802.11b wireless network product to support HomePNA, IrDA, Bluetooth? wireless technology, 10/100 Ethernet for high-speed LAN & WAN connections, print serving and broadband connectivity. 3eTI plans to introduce 802.11a and 802.11g by the end of the year.
