National Semiconductor Names Dr. Ahmad Bahai To Fellowship Position

March 11, 2002 - National Semiconductor (NYSE: NSM) has named Dr. Ahmad Bahai to the position of National Semiconductor Fellow, the company's highest technical position. Previously Chief Technology Officer and Director of the 3G Group for the Wireless Division, Dr. Bahai now serves as the Chief Technology Officer for the Wireless and Information Appliance Group.
             
Ahmad_Bahai.jpgThe National Semiconductor Fellow recognizes individuals who have consistently made outstanding contributions to National and the industry as measured by process and product innovations that have a critical impact on the company's success. As a Fellow, Dr. Bahai joins Dennis Monticelli, the only other current National Semiconductor Fellow.

"Dr. Bahai is an outstanding innovator who has made significant contributions to National's leadership in wireless technology," said Brian L. Halla, chairman, president and CEO of National Semiconductor. "His work continues to drive our success in a number of key technologies."

Dr. Bahai is recognized throughout the industry and academia as a leading expert on wireless systems. He joined National in January 2000 as part of the acquisition of Algorex, a company he co-founded. Since becoming a part of the company, Dr. Bahai and his team in Fremont, CA have developed a novel WCDMA architecture and brought it to prototype stage. Prior to founding Algorex, he was a technical manager for the Wireless Communications Group of AT&T Bell Laboratories and a staff scientist for Teknekron Communications. 

Dr. Bahai is a consulting professor for the Electrical Engineering Department of Stanford University and a visiting professor at UC Berkeley. He is the author of over 30 technical papers and reports and holds five key patents in the Communications and Signal Processing field. Since 1998, Dr. Bahai has been an editor of IEEE Communication Letters and keynote speaker for many key technical conferences and seminars. Several of his papers were awarded Best Invited Papers/Best Keynotes. In 1999 he published the first textbook in OFDM,  "Multi-Carrier Digital Communications, Theory & Applications of OFDM," which is widely used in academia and industry.

Dr. Bahai has an MSEE degree from the University of London, Imperial College and a PhD EE from the University of California at Berkeley.
