March 4, 2002 - Dennis Monticelli, a distinguished Fellow at National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE: NSM), will deliver the first keynote speech at next week's plenary session of the Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC) 2002, the leading event for practicing power electronics professionals worldwide. Monticelli's keynote speech will be on Monday, March 11, at 1:30 PM Central Standard Time. Sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), APEC 2002 will be held March 10-14, 2002, at the Adam's Mark Hotel, Dallas, Texas.
In a speech entitled "System Approaches to Power Management," Monticelli will discuss new ways of solving today's complex power management problems resulting from performance demands for new system-level designs. Monticelli will offer insights on solutions that require a system approach where portions of the power management circuitry will exist in the form of traditional separate chips while others are embedded with the system chips themselves.
Monticelli will use two high performance systems, multi-GHz microprocessors and the third-generation (3G) cellular phones, to illustrate the new thinking in power management designs in terms of additional functions of the circuitry and savings in power consumption. He will also review specific power management needs of these systems and discuss innovative approaches to achieving performance requirements.
