National Semiconductor Promotes Detlev Kunz to Head Worldwide Marketing and Sales

July 27, 2001 - National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:NSM) today announced the promotion of Detlev Kunz to Senior Vice President and General Manager of Worldwide Marketing and Sales. Kunz will report directly to Brian L. Halla, chairman, president and chief executive officer.

"Detlev's broad background in sales and marketing in Europe over his 20-year career at National makes him an outstanding choice for this key position," Halla said. "He has done an excellent job managing our business in Europe as vice president and general manager of that operation since January 2000."

Kunz joined National in 1981 and served in various positions in analog product marketing in Germany before moving to the company's subsidiary in the United Kingdom in 1984. He later returned to Germany as a corporate account manager and was promoted to the European management team in 1993 as marketing director for the company's Communications and Computing group. In 1997, he was named as director of sales for Europe, and in January 2000 was promoted to vice president and general manager for Europe.

"It's a privilege to move up to this higher level of marketing and sales management as our industry enters the new era of information applications driven by the Internet," Kunz said. "I look forward to meeting the challenges of the fast moving global marketplace."

Kunz has an MSE in electrical engineering from the Technical University in Hannover, Germany.
