June 12, 2001 - After conducting a nationwide search, National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:NSM) today announced the promotion of Lewis Chew to the position of Chief Financial Officer. Chew has served as acting CFO since early April, when former CFO Donald Macleod was promoted to a newly created position of Chief Operating Officer.
"Lewis is a key contributor to National's success and a terrific addition to our executive team," said Brian L. Halla, chairman, president and chief executive officer. "Lewis has played a pivotal role in building National's financial stability for more than four years. During the past few months, he has repeatedly demonstrated his readiness for this new assignment by serving as acting CFO during a downturn that has tested the financial management skills of every semiconductor company in the world."
Chew, 38, joined National in 1997. He has been responsible for corporate finance, worldwide operations finance and strategic business planning. Prior to National, Chew was a Partner at KPMG in its high technology practice. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Santa Clara University and is a CPA.
