June 5, 2001 - National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:NSM) and Supertek Express Technology Inc. today announced that Klever, an internet device Supertek adapted from National's Geode? SP1SC10 reference design, is ready for volume production. Klever will be on display at National's booth (# 1250) at Computek 2001, June 3-8 in Taipei.
The Geode SP1SC10 platform, based on the Geode SC1200 single-chip processor, is a complete hardware and software reference design for a set-top box that is optimized for Internet access. Klever is a highly customizable manufacturing kit that allows customers to easily build and add features, such as DVD, video-on-demand or home gateway functions, reducing overall development cost and shortening time-to-market.
"National is a market leader in single-chip development for information appliances, " said Jason Chen, President of Supertek. "The advantage of the Geode SP1SC10 platform is its flexibility. Based on this platform and our experience with markets and customers, we make Klever a highly customizable manufacturing kit. We can easily add on features as our customers wish. Riding on National's single chip technology and Supertek's design integration, we can deliver a highly flexible and compelling solution for manufacturers in a short period of time."
"Supertek's Klever platform is a versatile design that can be adapted easily to match the needs of customers," said David Pederson, set-top box business unit director, Information Appliances, National Semiconductor. "As smart homes become more popular, we can look forward to Supertek's Klever box being one of the leading multi-function appliances that offer information, convenience and entertainment in one package."
