April 6, 2001 - National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE: NSM) today announced that Don Macleod, the company's Chief Financial Officer for the past 10 years, has been promoted to a new position of Chief Operations Officer. In his new role, Macleod will be responsible for all of National's product lines.

Macleod, 52, joined National in 1978. Prior to becoming CFO, Macleod served as Vice President and General Manager in Europe of National's International Business Group.
In addition to promoting Macleod, Halla also appointed Lewis Chew, National's Vice President and Corporate Controller, to serve as acting CFO. Chew, 38, joined National four years ago from KPMG, where he served as a partner in their technology practice.
