October 2, 2000 - National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:NSM) today announced the LM8272, a dual rail-to-rail operational amplifier ideally suited for desktop and notebook TFT-LCD displays. The LM8272's high output current drives applications that need a large amount of current - key in larger panels. Its stable capacitive load drive eliminates flickering displays, allowing for a stable screen image.
"The LM8272 is ideal for running large TFT-LCD panels because of its high output current and unlimited capacitive load drive, which generate faster line rates and eliminate uncontrolled oscillation for better picture quality," said Oleg Steciw, marketing manager for National's amplifier product group.
Smaller TFT panels require lower supply voltages (less than 12V) while larger desktop TFT-LCDs require higher supply voltage (around 20V). The LM8272's VIP3 process allows National to offer a supply voltage range of 2.5-24 volts, again offering the end-user a greater degree of design freedom.
The LM8272's 130mA of short circuit output current, required by larger TFT panels, and its rail-to-rail input and output, enable maximum dynamic range at any supply voltage. Additionally, the LM8272 provides a slew rate of 12V/uS and gain bandwidth of 15MHz. Other applications for the LM8272 include AD converters, high side/low side sensing and headphone amplifiers.
Pricing and Availability
The LM8272 is available now in the MSOP-8 package and priced at $1.30 in 1000-unit quantities.
