National Semiconductors New Power-On-Reset (POR) Voltage Supervisory IC
Offers Highest Precision Available in a SOT23 Package
1% Threshold Voltage Accuracy Guaranteed Down to Vcc=0.5V Over Entire
Temperature Range
October 28, 1997 - National Semiconductor
Corporation® today announced a power-on-reset (POR) voltage monitor with
guaranteed accuracy of 1% over the entire temperature range of -20C to
+85C and with guaranteed reset valid down to Vcc=0.5V. The micropower
LP3470 voltage monitor, housed in a tiny SOT23-5 package, is designed to
generate a reset output whenever the supply voltage falls below preset
specifications. Maximum flexibility for power-on-reset (POR) and
supervisory functions is provided with an adjustable reset time-out
period.
The LP3470 is available in six standard reset threshold voltages:
2.63V, 2.93V, 3.08V, 4.00V, 4.38V and 4.63V. In addition, Nationals E2
PROM technology enables the LP3470 to be programmed to more than 50
different reset threshold voltages between 2.4V and 5.0V in 50mV
increments.
Our E2PROM technology allows customers to select the precise reset
threshold voltage they need for their specific application, said Mark
Downing, Nationals director of power management products. E2PROM also
improves their time-to-market by allowing us to program each customers
threshold voltage just before the LP3470 is delivered.
Other key features of the LP3470 include immunity to short voltage
transients. A low quiescent current of 16 microamps (typ) makes the device
an ideal choice to monitor battery-powered systems. It is especially
suitable for monitoring lithium-ion battery voltages thanks to the low
quiescent current combined with +/-1% threshold voltage accuracy.
The LP3470 voltage monitor is designed to prevent fault conditions
that typically occur during power-up, power-down and brownout conditions.
Typical applications include intelligent instruments, computers and
portable battery-powered equipment.
Price and Availability
Available now in production quantities, the LP3470M5 in the
SOT23-5 package is priced at $0.70 each in 1000-unit lots.
