NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR NAMES JEAN-LOUIS BORIES TO HEAD NEWLY FORMED CORE TECHNOLOGY GROUP

Oct. 30, 1997 -- National Semiconductor Corporation® today named Jean-Louis Bories, 42, as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the company's newly formed Core Technology Group. Bories previously was Vice President and General Manager of ASIC Technology at LSI Logic Corporation.

In his new position, reporting directly to National Semiconductor Chief Executive Officer Brian L. Halla, Bories will address the growing demand for semi-custom system-on-a-chip solutions and will focus on the centralization of processor cores and related technologies in a single product group.

"Jean-Louis Bories comes to National with a wealth of silicon design experience bridging the analog and digital worlds," Halla said. "Filling this slot completes our top management organization with strong managers focused on executing our strategy to provide innovative solutions for the world of information appliances. Jean-Louis is an excellent fit for this team."

Bories has been involved in silicon system design since 1979 when he began his career at Thomson CSF in France working on full custom analog system designs for radar and missile guidance applications. While at Thomson CSF he also was active in designing digital and DSP systems as well as development of silicon process technology. In the mid-l980s he headed the design effort for a programmable signal processor for radar applications.

Bories joined LSI Logic Corporation in 1988 as Design Center Manager in Paris, and in 1990 became Director of Engineering for LSI Europe based in London. In 1993, he moved to LSI Logic's Milpitas, California headquarters as Program Director for 0.5-micron technology development. He expanded his role to become Vice President for Advanced Methodology and Computer Aided Design (CAD) in 1995.

In 1996, he was named Vice President and General Manager of LSI Logic's Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) technology, where he was responsible for a variety of technology projects including mixed analog and digital circuit designs.

Bories is a native of France and has a master of science degree from the Ecole Superieure d'Electricite in Paris.
