NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR NAMES JEAN-LOUIS BORIES
TO HEAD NEWLY FORMED CORE TECHNOLOGY GROUP
Oct. 30, 1997 -- National Semiconductor Corporation®
today named Jean-Louis Bories, 42, as Senior Vice President and General
Manager of the company's newly formed Core Technology Group. Bories
previously was Vice President and General Manager of ASIC Technology at
LSI Logic Corporation.
In his new position, reporting directly to National Semiconductor Chief
Executive Officer Brian L. Halla, Bories will address the growing
demand for semi-custom system-on-a-chip solutions and will focus on the
centralization of processor cores and related technologies in a single
product group.
"Jean-Louis Bories comes to National with a wealth of silicon design
experience bridging the analog and digital worlds," Halla said. "Filling
this slot completes our top management organization with strong managers
focused on executing our strategy to provide innovative solutions for
the world of information appliances. Jean-Louis is an excellent fit for
this team."
Bories has been involved in silicon system design since 1979 when he
began his career at Thomson CSF in France working on full custom analog
system designs for radar and missile guidance applications. While at
Thomson CSF he also was active in designing digital and DSP systems as
well as development of silicon process technology. In the mid-l980s he
headed the design effort for a programmable signal processor for radar
applications.
Bories joined LSI Logic Corporation in 1988 as Design Center Manager in
Paris, and in 1990 became Director of Engineering for LSI Europe based
in London. In 1993, he moved to LSI Logic's Milpitas, California
headquarters as Program Director for 0.5-micron technology development.
He expanded his role to become Vice President for Advanced Methodology
and Computer Aided Design (CAD) in 1995.
In 1996, he was named Vice President and General Manager of LSI Logic's
Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) technology, where he was
responsible for a variety of technology projects including mixed analog
and digital circuit designs.
Bories is a native of France and has a master of science degree from the
Ecole Superieure d'Electricite in Paris.
