National Semiconductor To Retain Greenock, Scotland Facility

Sept. 14, 1999 ? National Semiconductor® Corporation announced today it will retain ownership of its semiconductor manufacturing facility in Greenock, Scotland.

The announcement halts National?s plans, announced in October 1998, to seek investors to spin out the operation as an independent foundry. National will, however, continue to consolidate its manufacturing lines in Greenock by closing a 4-inch wafer fab and transferring products and processes to a 6-inch fab as well as other National facilities.

There has been a surge in demand for analog products --the type of integrated circuit manufactured in Greenock. In addition, market conditions have improved at a rate that has exceeded expectations, so National has decided to retain the facility.

National Semiconductor provides system-on-a-chip solutions for the information age. Combining real-world analog and state-of the-art digital technology, the company's chips lead many sectors of the personal computer, communications, and consumer markets. With headquarters in Santa Clara, California, National reported sales of $2 billion for its last fiscal year and currently has about 11,000 employees worldwide. Additional company and product information is available on the World Wide Web at www.national.com.
