NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR ANNOUNCES TRIPLE MONOLITHIC CRT DRIVER FOR HIGH-END MONITORS

April 6, 1999 - National Semiconductor Corporation® (NYSE:NSM) today introduced the LM2402, a triple monolithic driver designed for high-resolution color monitor applications. The high-voltage driver is especially well suited for UXGA (1600 x 1200) displays with pixel clock frequencies up to 200MHz that previously required expensive hybrid circuits. The LM2402 supports National's system integration strategy by offering a high-performance solution at a 30% to 35% cost advantage over existing hybrid solutions. The device complements National's extensive 11-lead, pin-to-pin compatible CRT driver family (TO220-11L).

"Since more than half of the CRT monitors shipped today use National's pin-compatible CRT drivers, many monitor designers will be familiar with what it takes to use the LM2402," said Bill Stacy, vice president of National's Data Conversion Systems Group. "Coupled with our industry-leading applications support, this device will help shorten our customers' design cycles while allowing them to offer a less expensive solution than is possible with competitors' hybrid products." he added.

The LM2402's monolithic design incorporates improved circuit integration, which in turn increases monitor reliability. The device operates from 80V and 12V power supplies and features a 200MHz, cascode output stage capable of driving 8pF, 40Vp-p swing at a maximum rise / fall time of 3.1 nS. The IC is housed in an industry standard, 11-lead TO-220 molded plastic power package. National's new CRT driver is built on the company's proprietary VIP3H process, which enables both high voltage and high bandwidth capability.
