NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR Wins "Business On the Internet" -- BOTI -- Award for Best Extranet Application; Achieves Recognition for Saving Customers Time
March 11, 1998 At a ceremony tonight at Internet World, National Semiconductor Corporation® (NYSE:NSM) will be presented with the "Business on the Internet" (BOTI) award from CMP's InternetWeek and Network Computing for best extranet application.
The BOTI awards recognize the most innovative companies for their ability to capitalize on the Internet to create business advantages. Participating companies numbered 1,210 this year.
"Our only objective continues to be to save our customers the one thing that they cannot get enough of, time. Our Internet, intranet, and extranet sites encourage faster response and deeper relationships with our channel partners, end-customers, and our own sales force," said Phil Gibson, National's director of interactive marketing. "Our focus on using the Internet as a customer support tool gives our customers an advantage over their competition. By saving our customers time, they can get their products to market faster."
National's extranet application, which won the "Business on the Internet" award, allows the company to extend its reach to its distributors and direct sales force domestically and internationally giving them the ability to access customized technical information and sales materials.
Extranet Delivers Results
With the deployment of this extranet, National makes an engineering direct feedback process available to distributors and the direct sales force seven-days a week, 24-hours a day. This was not possible before implementing the extranet. By streamlining its support to direct and indirect sales forces, National is giving them back precious time to concentrate on other value-add activities with their customers. Furthermore, the feedback loop created between the company and these sales forces allows National to better forecast upcoming procurement and manufacturing challenges.
This service is part of a growing list of Web investments by National targeted at improving its customers' ability to make faster decisions.
