NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR INTRODUCES INDUSTRY'S LOWEST POWER, HIGHEST OUTPUT, SINGLE-SUPPLY DUAL AND TRIPLE VIDEO-LINE DRIVERS

August 11, 1997 - National Semiconductor Corporation® today announced availability of a broad family of dual and triple low-power, high-output op amps and programmable buffers. The industry-leading drivers combine high speed, high output current, low power consumption, excellent video and distortion specs and single-supply operation. Incorporating a new buffer-driven, common-emitter output, the devices can source or sink up to 130mA and drive a low-impedance load within 1.0V of either supply rail. Supply current is as low as 1.6mA/channel. These devices require the lowest power and deliver the highest output of any single-supply dual and triple video-line drivers on the market.

"This family of duals and triples is derived from our CLC45X series, which recently gave designers new options in off-the-shelf, high-speed/high-output op amps and buffers in ultra-small SOT-23 packages." said Jeff Hooker, marketing manager for National Semiconductor's Comlinear Products Group. "Now, designers have even more choices. The duals are ideal for applications such as driving video through twisted pair and for signal-boosting tasks such as driving transformers. The triples are an excellent choice for RGB video driving through coaxial cable."

The family of duals includes two dual op amps (the CLC5602 and CLC5622) and two dual programmable buffers (the CLC5612 and CLC5632). All four devices can operate from either a single +5V supply or dual 5V supplies.

The family of triples includes one triple op amp (the CLC5623) and one triple programmable buffer (the CLC5633). Both can operate from either a single +5V supply or dual 5V supplies.

Both the duals and triples feature excellent harmonic-distortion specs and maintain high signal fidelity while driving low-impedance loads in single-supply systems.

With the combination of wide bandwidth, low power consumption, high output current and low harmonic distortion, the CLC56XX family is also expected to find broad application in communications systems (high-speed modems), residential broadband systems (ADSL/HDSL), digital video (AD/DA converters) and instrumentation.

Price and Availability
The CLC56XX family is available now in industrial-screened versions (-40 to +85 C) in plastic DIP and plastic SOIC packages. Plastic MSOP packages will also be offered in Q4, 97. List prices in quantities of 1000s start at:
CLC5602 Dual Op Amp, $1.70
CLC5612 Dual Programmable Buffer, $1.70
CLC5622 Dual Op Amp, $1.74
CLC5632 Dual Programmable Buffer, $1.74
CLC5623 Triple Op Amp, $2.23
CLC5633 Triple Programmable Buffer, $2.23
