NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR COMPLETES SERIAL DIGITAL VIDEO RECEIVER SOLUTION WITH INTRODUCTION OF 300MBPS SDV DECODER
High-Speed Device Establishes New Levels Of Price-Performance And Low Power for Broadcast Quality Video Systems
August 18, 1997 - National Semiconductor Corporation® today announced availability of a 300Mbps serial digital video (SDV) decoder and serial-to-parallel converter. The Comlinear CLC011 has a power dissipation of 200mW - a 20% reduction - and overall better price-performance than alternative solutions.
The CLC011 takes an SMPTE 259M standard datastream and decodes it into a 10-bit parallel data stream with a word rate clock. It includes circuitry to process scrambled or unscrambled NRZI or NRZ data. In combination with Nationals CLC014 adaptive cable equalizer and CLC016 data retiming phase lock loop (PLL), the CLC011 provides a complete solution for a serial digital video (SDV) receiver.
"National has clearly established a leadership position with components for SDV routers," said Doug Turnage, marketing director for National Semiconductor's Interface Products. "Now, with the introduction of the CLC011, we offer video equipment designers a superior receiver solution as well. Prior to the introduction of the CLC011, video-equipment designers were limited to one SDV decoder device Now, they have the choice of selecting a part with 20 percent less power dissipation at a significantly lower price."
Key features of the CLC011 include data decoding and deserializing in compliance with SMPTE 259M, 50ps p-p residual jitter, controlled slew-rate outputs for low noise injection to power supplies, single +5V or -5.2V supply operation. Output levels are programmable for interface to 5V or 3.3V logic, and pinouts are similar to the GS9000 for easy circuit modification and cost reduction.
The IC rounds out Nationals SDV family, which is designed for use in broadcast-quality professional video systems as well as video end equipment such as editors, special-effects boxes, VCRs and monitors.
Price and Availability
The CLC011ACQ is available now in a commercial-screened version (0 to +70C) and is housed in a 28-pin PLCC package. U.S. list price is $7.95 in 1000s.
