National Semiconductors LM6172-QML Dual Op Amp Offers Mil/Aero Market Best Slew Rate, Highest Gain Bandwidth At Lowest Price
Voltage-Feedback Dual Op Amp Slews at 3000V/sec - Two Times Faster Than Other Dual Current- Or Voltage-Feedback Devices
March 31,1997 - The LM6172AMJ-QML dual voltage-feedback operational amplifier - featuring the industrys best combination of fast slew rate, high bandwidth, high output drive current, low distortion and low power consumption - is now available from National Semiconductors Mil/Aero Division.
The LM6172 provides the best overall performance for high-speed signal processing in aircraft, satellite and ground communications applications. Its 3000V/sec slew rate, 100MHz unity-gain bandwidth and low 2.3mA power consumption per channel specifications also make it ideal for video and signal processing designs.
For applications requiring large voltage swings, such as scanners, electro optic (EO) sensors and sonar equipment, the LM6172 operates from +/-15V power supplies. For low-voltage applications, such as manpack tactical radios, the versatile device also functions from +/-5V supplies.
This wide supply range underpins system designs requiring wide dynamic range, and a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and total harmonic distortion (THD). The low supply current also is well-suited for multi-channel systems.
The industry-leading device is the first dual voltage-feedback op amp to have a slew rate of 3000V/sec. That specification is much faster than any other dual current- or voltage-feedback op amp operating from a +/-15V power supply.
The LM6172 dual voltage-feedback op amp is another original design to take advantage of Nationals proprietary, advanced VIP III complementary bipolar process (VIP stands for Vertically-Integrated PNP). This process enables a unique combination of high voltage and high speed on a single chip. Integral to the devices architecture are innovative design features: The patented input stage enables the phenomenally high slew rate at a low supply current, while the output stage is designed to deliver high output current while consuming low power. The LM6172 also exhibits exceptional radiation tolerance. The device remains functional after exposure to 800k rads. A total dose radiation test report is available from Nationals Customer Response Group.
The LM6172AMJ-QML further underscores National Semiconductors continuing commitment to provide systems-oriented solutions for military and aerospace customers.
It fully meets MIL-PRF-38535 QML under Nationals DESC- (Defense Electronics Supply Center) validated QML system to operate over the full military temperature range of -55 to +125 degrees C. The device has a Defense Electronics Supply Center (DESC) Standard Microcircuit Drawing (SMD) #5962-9560401QPA.
