September 12, 1996 - An integrated Octal Buffer and Line Driver with Tri-State Outputs - incorporating the fastest BiCMOS logic available - is fully qualified for Space applications and now offered by National Semiconductor's Mil/Aero Division. The Advanced BiCMOS Technology (ABT) 54ABT244 features a quick 4.8ns (nanosecond) propagation delay while providing low-noise, high-drive and low-power consumption capabilities.
Designed to continue National's leadership in Space-oriented logic, the ABT family provides buffer/line driver, transceiver, flip-flop and latch functions in octal and 16-bit bus driving applications for Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) space vehicles. The ABT family can also be employed as a memory and address driver, clock driver or bus-oriented transmitter/receiver.
High-speed ABT logic enables designers to increase system performance by easily upgrading from lower-performance logic families (such as FAST, BCT and FCT-T). Moreover, designers can achieve this higher performance while retaining such excellent features as low noise (ground bounce) of 0.8V (Volp) for quiet operation and high drive output of 48mA (Iol) that requires no additional drivers. ABT Logic devices also have very low static and dynamic power consumption for power efficiency, such as a standby current of 50mA and an active current of less than 0.1mA/MHz.
Tri-state outputs guarantee uninterrupted high impedance throughout the entire power-up/power-down cycles ranging from zero to 5.5 volts. ABT logic also incorporates
extended AC specifications that precisely define guaranteed propagation delays, skew and noise with multiple outputs under various loads.
National's Mil/Aero ABT products are fully specified over the entire military temperature range (-55 to +125 degrees C) and build on the advantages of BiCMOS technology. BiCMOS combines bipolar outputs that provide the high drive with the low noise features and the low power consumption of CMOS, important in power-sensitive Space applications. Also, less shielding is required for Space applications due to the device's radiation tolerance of 10Krad RHA (Si).
Packaging and Availability
The 54ABT244QML-V (full nomenclature) is available now through selected distributors in several packaging configurations, such as ceramic DIPs, ceramic FPs (flat packs) and ceramic LCCs (leadless chip carriers) for design.
National's logic device fully meets Mil-Prf 38535 QML-V under the company's newly-validated QML system. This further underscores the company's commitment to provide systems-oriented solutions for mil/aero customers. The device has a Defense Electronics Supply Center (DESC) Standard Microcircuit Drawing (SMD) number: 5962-9214701VxA.
