NEW TINYPAK™ COMPARATORS COMBINE WORLD'S ONLY RAIL-TO-RAIL INPUT WITH GUARANTEED 1µA MAXIMUM SUPPLY CURRENT at 5V

Targeted For Portable Designs, Low-Price CMOS Devices Feature 2V Operation and 1.4µW Power Dissipation
September 30, 1996 - National Semiconductor Corporation® today announced two new CMOS comparators that combine rail-to-rail input stages and guaranteed low 1µA maximum supply current over a wide 2V to 8V supply voltage range. Both are housed in SOT23-5 TinyPak™ packages.

The ultra-low-power devices, LMC7215 and LMC7225, bring important design flexibility to power supervisory and analog conditioning applications in products such as laptop computers, cellular phones, metering systems, hand-held electronics, alarm and monitoring circuits. The LMC7215 features a push-pull output stage that enables operation with an absolute minimum amount of power consumption when driving any load. Using the LMC7225's open-drain outputs, designers can connect an external resistor so that the output can be used as a level shifter to any desired voltage up to15V.

"These new ICs extend National's already industry-leading comparator portfolio by offering the lowest supply voltage operation at the lowest supply current in the smallest package," according to Jim Chase, National's marketing manager for analog products. "Now designers can obtain these features without having to resort to less optimal op amp implementations. They can also optimize their mixed-voltage system designs by using open-drain outputs available with the LMC7225 for additional design flexibility," he noted.

Key features and benefits include:
Input common mode voltage that exceeds supply voltage rails for systems required to monitor large input signals or operate from single supplies Minimum operating voltage at +2V (guaranteed at +2.7V and +5V) for systems with low voltages or multiple supply voltages.
Low typical supply current of 0.7µA for battery-powered products

Other specifications include a high output-current drive of 45mA (at 5V), offset voltage of 1mV and a response time of less than 20(sec. The devices operate over the industrial temperature range of -40 to +85 C.

Price and Availability
Available now, the LMC7215 and LMC7225 are priced at $0.75 each (1,000-unit quantities) in the plastic SOT-23-5 TinyPak or SOIC packages.
