NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR FORMS FOUR BUSINESS GROUPS
June 13, 1996 -- National Semiconductor today
announced it has reorganized the company into four business groups, effective immediately. The company previously operated in seven divisions.
The new groups are Analog, Logic and Memory Products, Communications and Consumer, and Personal Systems. "With this new organization in place, I believe we will
be poised to start our march to the top of this industry," said Brian Halla, National's CEO, who was named to his post May 3. "The Analog business is our pre-eminent core competency. The Personal Systems and the Communications and Consumer groups will serve vertical markets with a high-level system integration approach."
At the same time Halla announced several executive appointments. Robert Penn was named senior vice president to head the Analog group. Doug McBurnie was named senior vice president to head the Communications and Consumer group. Mike Bereziuk was named senior vice president to head the Personal Systems group. All three were formerly general managers of company divisions. Executive Vice President Kirk Pond will head the Logic and Memory group.
Halla also announced the company will centralize its manufacturing operations in a Central Technology and Manufacturing group, and is seeking an executive to head it.
