BEYER RESIGNS FROM NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR
June 12, 1996 -- National Semiconductor today announced the resignation of Richard Beyer as executive vice president and chief operating officer. Beyer has stated his desire to "run my own shop."
"The best way to accomplish this goal is to actively pursue it," Beyer said. "That would force me to give less than 100 percent to my job at National, which would be unfair to the company, its shareholders and its employees."
National CEO Brian Halla, who was named to his post on May 3, said he was "disappointed to be losing Rich, but I respect and understand his decision. My head was in a similar place not too long ago."
Beyer has served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of National since June 1995. Prior to that assignment, he had been president of the company's Communications and Computing Group. He joined National in 1993.
National Semiconductor Corporation provides technologies for moving and shaping information. The company focuses on four strategic markets: communications, personal systems, industrial, and consumer. National Semiconductor is headquartered in Santa Clara, California, and has 20,000 employees worldwide. In fiscal 1996, the company reported sales of $2.6 billion.
