NATIONAL'S LINEAR TEMPERATURE SENSOR
FIRST IN A TINYPAK TO OPERATE FROM 2.7V SUPPLY
June 10, 1996 - National Semiconductor today announced the newest member of its family of analog-output temperature sensors in a
SOT-23 TinyPak. Operating from a low-power supply of 2.7V, the LM60 offers
an output voltage scale of 6.25mV/°C with excellent linearity over the full temperature range (-40°C to +125°C). The highly integrated LM60, housed in National's TinyPak SOT23 package, is ideal for space-constrained environments frequently found in portable communication devices and personal systems.
"The LM60 is the only low-voltage temperature sensor in a SOT-23 package available anywhere in the industry,"said Patricia Smith, National technical marketing engineer. "With its addition, National offers cost-effective solutions from its rapidly expanding temp sensor portfolio for most markets, and many applications."
The LM60 is ideal for a variety of wireless designs. For example, in PHS and other portable communication applications, the LM60 can be used in temperature compensation for oscillator drift. The LM60 also can be used to monitor temperature change during battery charging, preventing excessive charge cycles that can shorten battery life. National also offers an application board that facilitates quick, easy hook-up to a power supply and evaluation of its output characteristics.
Like National's other linear temp sensor ICs, the LM60 requires no external signal conditioning, calibration, or correction look-up tables,
making it a cost-effective, easy-to-use alternative to thermistors. Two thermistors can be replaced by a single LM60 temp sensor in some applications requiring excellent linearity over the full temperature range.
The LM60CIM3 is priced at $0.60 in 1,000-unit quantities.
