MEMBER OF THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
SANTA CLARA, CA., SEPTEMBER 12, 1995 -- National Semiconductor today announced that Ellen M. Hancock, formerly a senior vice president and group executive with IBM, has joined National as executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO) in the Office of the President.
Hancock reports to Gilbert F Amelio, chairman, president and chief executive officer (CEO), and along with Richard M. Beyer and Kirk P. Pond serves as COO. Together with Beyer and Pond, she will support management in directing the company's seven business divisions.
"I'm pleased to welcome Ellen to National Semiconductor," said Amelio. "Her
appointment brings many skills in the areas of system technology, software and
communications.
"These are all areas of utmost importance to National. Communications is key to our corporate strategy for producing technologies that move and shape information. And it's through system-level functionality that semiconductor makers are increasingly adding value to products."
Hancock served 29 years at IBM. Her last position was senior vice president and group executive for the Networking Hardware, Software and Software Solutions Divisions. Among her accomplishments was developing an overall strategy for IBM software, a multi-billion dollar business. Among other responsibilities, Hancock had served as the IBM vice president with executive responsibility for the ROLM Division, and now sits on the Board of Directors of Siemens ROLM Communication Inc.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics from the College of New Rochelle and a Master of Arts in mathematics from Fordham University.
