ANALOG EDGE

Welcome to the May 2001 Edition of the National Edge

The National Edge is a monthly online technical publication that features articles written by National Semiconductor's Engineers as well as other pertinent technical information. Articles discuss National products, applications and techniques for solving your analog and mixed-signal design challenges.

Featured Articles
  • LVDS based FPD-Link spans industries with Gigabits @ milliwatts!
    BY: John Goldie, Interface
LVDS is a high-speed low-power interface that is not only the defacto standard in Notebook displays today, but is also used in many datacom and telecom applications due to these very same benefits. It provides very high line transmission rates, requires little power, generates low noise levels, and is very robust.  FPD-Link (Flat Panel Display Link), invented by National in 1993, has evolved and become a standard in the notebook display market.
  • Integrated Assembly and Strip Test of Chip Scale Packages
BY: Shaw Wei Lee, Dale Anderson, Luu Nguyen and Hem Takiar, Package Technology Group
The Chip Scale Package (CSP) has been widely used by the Wireless and the Portable industry. With the increase demand in CSP volume ramp and the package variations, a new manufacturing strategy has been implemented.   This paper will describe the migration of CSP equipment from a conventional method to a fully integration assembly and strip test manufacturing method. This paper will also present the detail program and support with test results to ensure manufacturability and reliability of the manufacturing process.

New Technical Support Documents
  • AN-643: EMI/RFI Board Design  (pdf 475 KB)
This Application Note will define ElectroMagnetic Interference and describe how it relates to the performance of a system.  We will look at examples of Inter-system noise and Intra-system noise and present techniques that can be used to ensure ElectroMagnetic Compatibility throughout a system and between systems.
  • AN-1193 LM3477 Evaluation Board(pdf 207 KB)
The LM3477 is a current mode, high-side N channel FET controller.  It is most commonly used in buck configurations.  This Application Note will address the perfomance, hysteric mode, how to increase the current limit, and the layout fundamentals of the LM3477 evaluation board.
