Are Logic products available from National Semiconductor?

National Semiconductor offers Logic products for Military-Aerospace programs. Product types include ABT, FACT, ECL, Low-Power Schottky, FAST, TTL, CMOS, HCMOS, and CD4000 series. For information, please consult the Mil-Aero Featured Site.

In March 1997, National sold the commercial Logic, EEPROM, Memory, and Discrete portions of its business to Fairchild Semiconductor. Obtain information about Fairchild Semiconductor products from their website, www.fairchildsemi.com.

The FACT family logic data sheets only provide tables with voltage and timing information. Where can I find more information about the behavior and characteristics of the inputs and outputs?

In 1997, National made the decision that it would primarily be an analog and mixed signal company. Fairchild Semiconductor was spun out as a separate company and Fairchild acquired the Logic, Memory and Discrete product groups. National, however, retained the Military Aerospace product line which included a substantial number of logic parts. Fairchild elected not to pursue Military Aerospace business but an agreement was reached for Fairchild to supply logic die to the National Military Aerospace group just as they had always done. Fairchild continues to manufacture and sell commercial (plastic package) logic parts.

The first three chapters of the 1996 National FACT Advanced CMOS Logic Databook (the last one published) contained descriptions, family characteristics, ratings, waveforms and design considerations. Those chapters have been assigned application note numbers MS-542, MS-543 and MS-539 and they are available at www.fairchildsemi.com under Technical Information > Application Notes > Interface and Logic > FACT Logic. There are also a number of other FACT application notes listed under the Miscellaneous Application Note heading. The information is quite comprehensive and very helpful for anyone designing with FACT family logic.
