Ethernet is a family of frame based networking technologies for LANs (Local Area Networks). It defines the electrical and protocol layers and is standardized in the IEEE 802.3 standards. Ethernet dates back to the 1980s, and remains very popular today.

  • 2008 - Industry's first & only IEEE 1588 PHYTER introduced
  • 2001 - Industry's first Gigabit Ethernet NIC introduced

  • 1994 - National's N-Way protocol adopted by IEEE802.3 for autonegotiation of speed & duplex
  • 1990 - National chipset becomes the de-facto standard for 10Mb/s Ethernet
