The Open LVDS Display Interface (Open LDI) provides a high bandwidth, robust, economical digital interface for high-resolution flat panel monitors. LDI is based on the de-facto industry standard "FPD-Link" which is used in the majority of SVGA and XGA based Notebook and Sub-notebook computers today. LDI offers the same benefits to monitor applications as it does to notebooks. These include high bandwidth data transmission, low noise generation (emi), high noise rejection, and low power dissipation. LDI includes three enhancements over FPD-Link to extend the cable drive capability to over 5-10 meters of low cost twisted pair cabling. Both FPD-Link and LDI are based on the proven LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signaling) physical layer standard: ANSI/TIA/EIA-644.
The "Open" of Open LDI represents the spirit of which this standard has been developed. It represents the efforts of multiple Semiconductor, TFT-LCD Panel, System, Connector, and Cable manufacturers to provide the industry with a economical, robust, high bandwidth digital interface that supports panel resolutions for today's and tomorrow's applications which include XGA, SXGA, UXGA, HDTV, and QXGA panel resolutions. The Open LDI group had the foresight to specify and recommend to the industry the following items that have shaped the future of Digital Display Interfaces:
- Muxing / Demuxing of the VGA's Digital Interface to reduce the interconnect size and cost
- The use of LVDS signaling to raise transmission rates while reducing emi and power dissipation
- The "All Digital" panel interface
- The Dual-Pixel interface for the best balance of bit widths vs. bandwidth
The Open LDI Standard to available to the Industry on this web site. The complete Specification is located on this site below and is freely available for downloading. While the Specification is freely available, no license from the Promoter or other Adopters is granted until an Adopters Agreement is signed. See the notes below to find out how to become an Adopter.
For the Adopters Agreement:
To become an Adopter of the Open LDI Standard, follow the instructions below:
All of those who wish to practice the Open LDI Standard are invited to become Adopters of the Standard. Adopters receive a license from the Promoter and other Adopters to any Necessary Claims, as defined in the Adopters Agreement, and grant a similar license back. To become an Adopter, download and print out the Adopters Agreement below, have an authorized official of your company sign the Agreement and either mail two (2) signed copies back to the Adopter at the address in the Agreement, or FAX back a signed copy of the Agreement to the Adopter at the FAX number in the Agreement.
