Thermocouples

Thermocouples use two dissimilar metals. A temperature gradient along the length of the thermocouple generates a voltage output. Thermocouples are available in a variety of metal combinations to target specific temperature ranges. Thermocouples are available over a very wide range of temperatures and are rugged and very reliable.

Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs)

Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs) are wire wound and thin film devices that measure temperature based in the temperature coefficient of electrical resistance of metals. The have an increasing resistance has they become hotter. They are very accurate and have response times of a fraction of a second.
