National Semiconductor is a founding member of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), a founding member of Technology Network (TechNet), and a member of TechAmerica, the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), among other associations worldwide.

In 2006, National partnered with SIA and its members to promote U.S. competitiveness and leadership within the world semiconductor market. Under National's leadership, the SIA launched its initiative to help ensure continuing U.S. innovation within semiconductor technologies with key focuses on securing adequate university research funding, providing access to talent via increased availability of green cards and H-1B visas through legal immigration reform, and ensuring a level playing field with a permanent and enhanced research and development credit.

Additionally, National is a past participant and member of the World Semiconductor Council (WSC) which includes the semiconductor industries in China, Chinese Taipei, Europe, Japan, Korea and the United States. Policy issues discussed include environmental, health and safety, semiconductor trends, e-commerce, intellectual property protection, and developing trade rules.
