National Semiconductor’s
Commitment to Employee Health and Safety
Recently, there has been an increased level of scrutiny of the semiconductor industry’s manufacturing environment as it relates to employee health and safety. National is committed to maintaining high standards for worker health and safety, and we have the record to prove it.
It can not be disputed that National --and the semiconductor industry in general-- have superior health and safety controls and an excellent record. Our monitoring alarms for harmful substances have been set consistently below maximum allowable limits set by government agencies.
For example, National’s facility in Greenock, Scotland is monitored regularly by a number of different government agencies including the U.K. Health & Safety Executive and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency. In the past 16 years, we’ve been cited only once. And, National has, on several occasions, received the British Safety Council Award acknowledging our practices.
National remains committed to employee health and safety. And, although there is no scientific evidence linking the semiconductor manufacturing environment and cancer, National would participate in a health study if it was conducted by a credible, scientific organization; the study was industry wide, and it evaluated participants’ genetics and lifestyle factors such as diet, level of exercise, alcohol consumption and smoking habits.
