Espoo is the fastest growing city in Finland and is already the second largest city behind Helsinki. Modern and eclectic, Espoo began to expand in the 1950s when the Helsinki University of Technology moved to Otaniemi. Today, the university attracts students from around the world and has made Espoo a major center for technology and academics in Europe.
With a diverse population and frequent international visitors, Espoo offers many cultural activities, including fine dining, museums and a well-known chamber orchestra. Espoo is a great destination for outdoors enthusiasts as well. There are lots of green spaces, skiing and biking trails, and sports facilities. Many visitors enjoy Nuuksio National Park, and the Archipelago, a beautiful 36-mile stretch of seashore with 124 islands. To explore the islands, you can rent a canoe and get a unique glimpse of Finnish wildlife.
