INFORMATION APPLIANCES

National Semiconductor signed a definitive agreement in August 2003 to sell its Information Appliance (IA) business unit, consisting primarily of the Geode™ family of microprocessor products, to Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).  This sale is part of the company's efforts to streamline National's cost structure and focus investments on higher-margin analog technologies. Product and technical information is available on AMD's web site at www.amd.com/connectivitysolutions/geode.

National will continue to provide a variety of analog and infrastructure products that support the thin client, Smart Display and set-top box markets. National provides the human and networking interfaces for these devices, including its power management products, Boomer® audio amplifiers, COP8® Flash microcontrollers, LVDS display interface products, SuperI/O devices, temperature sensors, and PCI network cards based on the MacPHYTER™ Ethernet controller.
