How to Use WEBENCH 
navigation header 
On the top of each screen in WEBENCH is a navigation header that indicates in which step of the design process the user is.  The steps currently highlighted in red, "Analyze a Design" and "Thermal Simulation," indicate your current place in the process.

Setting up your thermal simulation...
Below is the WebTHERM data entry screen.  You can adjust various aspects of the environment, components, and board to meet your needs.
 

Your Design Requirements are confirmed on top.

Name your simulation and enter comments. 

Adjust the enviroment

  • Operating Conditions    
  • Ambient temperature    
  • Board Conditions    
  • Air flow: direction and velocity (units of linear feet per minute)    
  • Copper area Change the Copper Area help pagecontinue to WebTHERM - Change the Copper Area help page
Add/Remove HeatSink: This will create a new design using a TO-220 package.

Physical layout of your design: Components are drawn to scale and in their recommended locations.

The edge temperatures of the board are entered here. If the insulated box is unchecked, the temperature specified in the box is used for the board edge.

Bill of Materials (BOM) lists the following for each component:

  • Component
  • Power Dissipation
  • Manufacturer
  • Part #
  • Select Alternate Part
