Summary:

National Semiconductor has made development and implementation of Internet Access Enabled COP8 designs so easy, you don't need to know the details of internet protocols, modem communications, or COP8 architecture. National's COP8-IA reference design demonstrates the simplicity of creating COP8-based Internet applications using the UNIS Processor Expert™ (PE) code generator tool.

The COP8-IA reference design demonstrates the accessiblity of a connected weather station via the Internet. From a remote site you can collect information about temperature, humidity, pressure and light intensity, and update the application firmware. Make modifications to the application code online with National's WEBENCH™ for Microcontrollers, or use the standalone version of PE to develop your Internet Access project offline.

The board also supports real-time emulation and debugging of your own Internet Application via the free COP8™ Development Platform featured on the included CD-ROM.

Description:

COP8-REF-IA-01

The COP8-REF-IA kit supports two modem options: An external modem (standard PC type) connected to the board's RS232 port, or an optional on-board modem module.

The COP8CDR9 FLASH microcontroller based board measures temperature, humidity, pressure and light intensity with its integrated 16 channel, 10-bit A/D, and communicates this information to your PC software via an on-board Internet modem. The PC host software is written in Java and provides a graphical display of the remotely measured sensor information on your PC monitor. The program supports remote updating of the COP8FLASH microcontroller's firmware, and reading and writing of the controller's Virtual EEPROM data memory via the Internet.

The board's application firmware is completely auto-generated by the Processor Expert™ (PE) code generation tool. You can quickly and easily set the board's communication settings (dial-up number, login information) to connect the board to the Internet Service Provider of your choice. You make modifications to the code using the online version of PE, which is part of National's free COP8 WEBENCH™ online development environment, or you can use the PC-based standalone version of PE to develop your Internet Access project offline.

The board also supports real-time emulation and debugging of your Internet Application via the free COP8™ Development Platform featured on the included CD-ROM.
