Summary:

The COP8-EM/DM/IM Flash emulators ship with only a 2x7 ribbon cable and connector for emulation, and a single 68pin COP8CDR9 Null Target board for startup and initial code development.

If the customer target board does not have an on-board 2x7 header for the emulator, then an emulation Package Adapter can be used.

If the customer is designing with the COP8AMx/ANx9 devices, then a COP8A Null Target will allow initial code development and execution without an actual target board.

Description:

The Null Targets are a small PCB (1.5"x1.5") with a socketed COP8FLASH device, a 3.2MHz crystal, a power LED, and a 2x7 header for the emulator cable.

The 68pin Null Target has a brown-out-disabled COP8CDR9 device which can be powered by the emulator (at about 2.7v), or an external power supply may be connected for up to 5.5v operation.

The 28pin Null Target has a brown-out-disabled COP8ANE9 device which CANNOT be powered by the emulator, and requires an external power supply.

The emulation Package Adapters are essentially a Null Target with a PLCC package plug mounted on the bottom. The adapter plug fits into a PLCC device socket on the target board (or it can be soldered to the board), and the emulator connects to the adapter. The on-board COP8FLASH then becomes the target system controller.
