LMX9830 Bluetooth Serial Port Micro Module

National's LMX9830 provides the features and functionality designed to get you to market faster, offering a more cost effective solution than ever before. This highly integrated solution combines a 0.18 µm CMOS Bluetooth baseband controller and 2.4 GHz radio. Available in a single tiny BGA-60 package (6 mm x 9 mm x 1.2 mm), the LMX5452 provides one of the smallest solutions available in the industry.

All hardware and firmware is included to provide a complete solution from antenna through the complete lower and upper layers of the Bluetooth stack, up to the application including the Generic Access Profile (GAP), the Service Discovery Application Profile (SDAP), and the Serial Port Profile (SPP). The module includes a configurable service database to fulfill service requests for additional profiles on the host. Moreover, the LMX9830 is pre-qualified as a Bluetooth Integrated Component. Conformance testing through the Bluetooth qualification program enables a short time to market after system integration by insuring a high probability of compliance and interoperability.

Baseband controller

The baseband controller is the same as used in the LMX5452 and is based on the National's CompactRISC® 16-bit processor, optimized to handle the audio, data, and link management processing requirements of a Bluetooth node. The on-chip memory, ROM and Patch RAM, provide for lowest cost and risk, allowing the flexibility of firmware upgrades.

The firmware supplied in the on-chip ROM memory offers a complete Bluetooth (v2.0) stack including profiles and command interface. This firmware features point-to-point and point-to-multipoint link management supporting data rates up to the theoretical maximum over RFComm of 704 kbps. The internal memory supports up to 7 active Bluetooth
data links and one 1 SCO link.

Radio

The radio employs an integrated balun, antenna filter and switch in order to minimize external components. The radio has a heterodyne receiver architecture with a low intermediate frequency (IF) enabling the IF filters to be integrated on-chip. The transmitter uses direct IQ-modulation with Gaussian-filtered bit-stream data, a Voltage Control Oscillator (VCO) buffer, and a power amplifier.
