The WEBENCH® Signal Path Designer creates a customized signal path from the input signal to the general-purpose analog-to-digital converter operating at a sample rate of up to 5000 ksps (5 Msps).
The input signal may be a signal from a sensor that is amplified or adjusted through signal conditioning. To prevent distortion from an out-of-bandwidth signal or noise the signal passes through an anti-aliasing filter. By using a multiple-feedback topology, the filter is able to hold a steady common-mode voltage, thereby reducing the linearity errors from the amplifiers. Gain is also added to the filter to increase the signal to a level matching the ADC input range.
Finally, the signal passes through a simple R-C combination filter to minimize the loading effects of the data conversion on the filter circuit. The capacitor value is selected to make the effects of changing ADC input capacitance negligible. The resistor is set to 22 ohms.
