Maverick Lot Prevention Process

As part of National Semiconductor's continuous improvement activities, a process has been established at all manufacturing sites to focus on prevention of "Quality Incidents" or "Maverick Lots". The key to this process is the establishment of a Prevention Review Board (PRB) at each site. The PRB is made up of the site VP, key Manager and Engineering staff members whose focus is to collect manufacturing, process and product analysis data from all sources of their site. This data is reviewed for systemic problems that may be corrected in one area but could occur in others.

Once systemic issues are identified; Prevention or Focused Improvement Team are sponsored to develop corrective actions to eliminate the issue. Performance and results of these teams are monitored by the PRB for effectiveness.

The intended result of this process is the reduction of "major" issues occurring in the factory and potentially getting to customers.
