Hong Kong Employees Walk for Children's Charity

Jul. 5, 2006 - Eighteen colleagues from National Semiconductor's Hong Kong facility participated in a sponsored walk as volunteers at Tai Po Waterfront Park on July 2.

The event was organized by TREATS, a local charity group committed to promoting integration among children, youth and families from varying backgrounds and with differing abilities.

As the participating members were setting up the booths for the children to play in after the walk, thunder and heavy rained struck. Even though participants got soaked to the skin, it didn’t put out their fire for the charity event. Right before the opening ceremony, the rain stopped and the sun shone for the rest of the day.

The participants divided themselves into two teams. While one team set up the booths, the other team set off on the one-hour charity walk. Later on, the walkers joined the booth helpers to manage four booths: charity sale, sand art, face painting, and puzzles. Through the interaction with the children, the team learned and experienced the real meaning of integration and had a wonderful time.

The team raised US$4929 for the event, with the US$4000 grant from the National Semiconductor Foundation and the sponsorship from colleagues and friends, and won the "Group Fund-Raising Award."

The targets of TREATS are all children and youth, especially those with mental, physical, emotional and social challenges, learning disabilities, and from families living at or beneath the poverty level.
