 National receives Certificate of Recognition from Santa Clara School District


National's Community Relations Staff accepts the Certificate of Recognition from the Santa Clara School Board representative.
April 1, 2008 - In culmination of 15 years of partnership, National Semiconductor was honored by the Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) with a Certificate of Recognition at the March 13 Board meeting.

National Semiconductor has provided significant support to the district since 1993. Through collaboration with the district, National's Santa Clara employees volunteer their time at local schools like Briarwood Elementary, the school district receives access to National's Santa Clara facilities to host events such as New Teacher Orientation, and monetary donations are provided for specific educational projects.

Over the years, National has helped to build a garden, provide judges for the District’s science fair, and assisted with many other projects. In addition, National has been a key supporter of the District’s GAINS (Girls Achieving in Nontraditional Subjects) Program, helping more female students succeed in math and science.

"I have had the personal pleasure of working closely with the employees at National Semiconductor for eight years," Julie Topliff, Briarwood Elementary School Principal and Director of Business Partnerships for SCUSD, said. "I selected National Semiconductor for recognition because of their continued kindness and generosity to both Briarwood Elementary School and Santa Clara Unified School District."

National Receives Statewide Education Award in Texas

Jan. 29, 2008 - National Semiconductor's Arlington, Texas site received the 2008 Texas Education Partnership Crystal Award from the Texas Association of Partners in Education. Scott Kahl, Human Resources Director, accepted the award on behalf of the site at the award ceremony in Austin, Texas. Scott was joined by Arlington Independent School District's (A.I.S.D) Superintendant, Hector Montenegro and Associate Superintendent, Marcelo Cavazos. The site received the award in the large district, large business category

National Arlington has been a long-standing community partner for A.I.S.D., specifically focusing on ways to help students embrace the magic and creativity of science. National Arlington’s signature initiatives since 2000 have been the Internet Innovator Awards, the Science in Action initiative and a $250,000 grant to the AISD for Full Option Science System (FOSS) science curriculum kits. National has also provided annual contributions to the AISD Education Foundation, as well as support for student uniforms in Arlington's lower income schools. National employees from Arlington also volunteer at a variety of schools and hold positions on volunteer boards in support of the Arlington district.

The Texas Association of Partners in Education recognizes exemplary partners and partnership programs annually in seven categories/groups that benefit Texas schools. Individual Awards are also distributed in four categories. Awards are given to small, medium, and large districts on two levels: Crystal Award (one per district size/category) and Gold Award (up to three winners per district size/category). Nominations are judged by an independent panel of representatives from across Texas.

The Texas Association of Partners in Education is a 28-year old state organization with the purpose of strengthening student success through volunteer, community and business/school partnerships.

  National Semiconductor named one of CRO’s 10 Best Corporate Citizens By Industry

Dec. 19, 2007 - National Semiconductor has been named one of Corporate Responsibility Officer Magazine's 10 Best Corporate Citizens in the technology hardware industry.  The magazine used research tools and methodology from IW Financial of Portland, Maine to analyze companies using apples-to-apples comparisons.

The top 10 list was formed by IW Financial using a process to measure each company in the following categories:Environment, Climate Change, Human Rights, Employee Relations, Corporate Governance, Lobbying, Philanthropy and Financial.

National Honored as a Top Philanthropist in Silicon Valley

  

Jan. 18, 2007 - Recently, 400 business and community leaders met over breakfast to honor the top Corporate Philanthropists in Silicon Valley.

Sponsored by the San Jose/Silicon Valley Business Journal, the event recognized corporations that actively support the local community, and encouraged other companies to contribute to local charities and educational institutions.

The Silicon Valley Top Corporate Philanthropist list consisted of 35 companies including National Semiconductor, Intel, Applied Materials, Hewlett-Packard, Nvidia and Cisco Systems.

 National Wins Prestigious "Spirit of InnVision"Award from Community Partner

Nov. 8, 2006 - National Semiconductor has received the prestigious "Spirit of InnVision Award" from InnVision, a provider of housing and services for the homeless.

The award, which InnVision gives out sparingly to organizations which exemplify its values, was awarded to National, at InnVision’s annual gala on Oct. 27, 2006 in San Jose, Calif.

Gary Sargenti, Chair of InnVision’s Board of Directors, praised National for its unique model of partnership as he presented the award. "National has created a culture where involvement and giving are valued and encouraged," Gary said. "The spirit of giving permeates the entire corporation."

National has partnered with InnVision for several years, providing foundation grants and many volunteer hours as well. National’s Central Planning and Production Control (CPPC) and Worldwide Quality Network (WQN) departments have both planned numerous activities with InnVision, including shoe shopping excursions, backpack and school supply drives, throwing a Halloween party, and buying holiday gifts for InnVision’s Holiday Toy Shoppe.

A timely example of National’s involvement with InnVision is the third annual Halloween party, which National's WQN team hosted on Oct. 27, 2006 for InnVision children. National employees provided donated costumes for the children, and then held a costume contest where all participants received gifts. In addition, they hosted arts and crafts activities, such as creating t-shirts, tote bags, and jewelry.

"The WQN team enjoys the opportunity to put on an event at InnVision each year." Mark Seay, Quality Director, said. "It's a great time to join together in unity to help those in need in our community."

InnVision is Silicon Valley’s largest provider of housing and services to homeless and at-risk families and individuals. More than 16,000 people are served annually at 20 sites throughout the region.

  National Semiconductor's Arlington Plant Receives Rotary Club Award


National employees receive the Rotary Club's Outstanding Business Award.

Oct. 3, 2006 - National Semiconductor's Arlington, Texas plant was recognized by the Arlington Downtown Rotary Club with its Outstanding Business Award on September 14.

The award is given to businesses that put service above self in personal, business and community service.

"It was an honor to receive the Outstanding Business Award. The club emphasizes 'service above self' and recognized the efforts of National Semiconductor and its employees in the community." Scott Kahl, HR Director said, "It is great to work with people and for a company that care so much about making a difference in the life of others."

 IEEE Presents National with Outstanding Corporate Engineering Community Service Award


IEEE 2006 Region 6 Outstanding Corporate Engineering Community Service Award presented to National.

Oct. 2, 2006 - National Semiconductor received the prestigious IEEE Outstanding Corporate Engineering Community Service Award for 2006 at a ceremony held in Santa Clara, Calif. on Sept. 29.

The award was given to National in recognition and appreciation of National's valued services and major contributions to engineering innovation, employee development, community activities and continuous support of IEEE.

National's Community Relations team celebrates after receiving the Outstanding Corporate Grant Maker award.

Nov. 7, 2005- National Semiconductor received the prestigious award for Outstanding Corporate Grant Maker at the 2005 Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day luncheon on Nov. 4.

The annual luncheon is coordinated by the Association of Fundraising Professionals as a way to honor local philanthropists. National’s CFO Lewis Chew accepted the award, thanking the nonprofit organizations with which National partners and the employees of National for their dedication to the community.

National was selected from dozens of applications. The selection committee issued the following statement about National, "No service is too great or too small for this company. When National invests, this Outstanding Corporate Grant Maker does it with money, time, energy, and passion for change and a healthy community."

National was nominated by three nonprofit organizations: RAFT (Resource Area for Teaching), The Family Giving Tree, and Girls for A Change. National’s nomination marked the first time in the 18-year history of the awards that three separate organizations had nominated the same corporation.

These three organizations shared their experiences of working with National as a community partner. They stressed that National has a unique approach to grant making that goes beyond simply giving grants to developing strong relationships and providing consulting, volunteers, and in-kind donations as well.

"We are proud to accept this award, and especially proud of our partnerships with RAFT, The Family Giving Tree, and Girls for A Change to help address critical needs in our community," Joan Scott, Director of Community Relations for National, said. "These organizations are the ones who truly make the difference in the community.
