The future home of "National Semiconductor Field" in Arlington, Texas. The field, to be managed by the Boys and Girls Club of Arlington, will host sports leagues for hundreds of low-income youth in Arlington

June 18, 2008 - On Tuesday, June 17, the Arlington City Council gave the green light for the construction of a "National Semiconductor Field", a Boys and Girls Club athletic field in East Arlington. Over 50 percent of the funding is being provided by National via a $63,000 grant from the National Semiconductor Foundation, an advised fund of Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
Construction will start this month. The project includes leveling and sodding the field, installation of an irrigation system, fencing, planting trees and other landscaping. It will culminate in the addition of bleachers, goals, and backstops. Hundreds of underprivileged kids each year will use the field for flag football, baseball and soccer leagues. The sports complex will be complete and ready for use by the Boys and Girls sports leagues in September 2008. We anticipate a ribbon cutting ceremony will occur at that time to include National Semiconductor employees.
The project is a collaboration of the Boys and Girls Club, National Semiconductor, the City of Arlington, and other community donors. Boys & Girls Club organized over $55,000 in donated services and equipment from local companies. As part of the Weed and Seed Program, the City of Arlington is leasing out the land for the field at a minimal cost.
"This project will support the programs of the Boys and Girls Club in an underprivileged area of our community. It will also create an environmental benefit to the neighborhood," said Scott Kahl, National Arlington HR Director. "We will transform an undeveloped lot into an attractive recreation facility. The sports field will provide an opportunity for family sports, leisure and recreation activities in conjunction with Boys and Girls club sponsored leagues."
The Boys and Girls Club Southeast Branch has provided daily after school and summer activities for the area’s disadvantaged youth since 1959. Young people are transformed through participating in daily, high-impact activities that help them to develop academically, socially and to enrich their overall health and well-being.
The City of Arlington's Weed and Seed Program was created to enhance east-side neighborhood quality through a community-based multi-agency approach to law enforcement, crime prevention and neighborhood restoration. The program strives to provide focused effort to fragile neighborhoods for permanent improvements.

Sept 12, 2006 - National Semiconductor's Arlington, Texas facility has given a donation of $13,800 to Arlington Charities. The donation will provide a new phone system, as well as freezer and air conditioning unit to this agency.
Arlington Charities supports needy families and seniors in and around the Arlington area with the basic necessities, food and clothing. They operate on a shoestring budget that they make go a very long way with the help of long-time volunteers and supporters like National Semiconductor.
National's Arlington Community Care Team, comprised of employees who volunteer their time to support the community, helps Arlington Charities throughout the year by sorting and bagging food and clothing and school supplies, and with funding to provide food to their clients.

Spreading Holiday Cheer to Children

Nov. 14, 2006 - Each holiday season, the Community Care Team of National Semiconductor's Arlington facility holds a toy drive that supports the children of the families in the SAVE (Student and Volunteer Efforts) program.
The SAVE program is a division of Child Protective Services that seeks to avoid abuse and neglect through education and assistance. The children provide a "wish list" for holiday gifts. National's Community Care Team puts the wish lists in stockings on a mock fireplace in their cafeteria.
"The wish lists go like hotcakes," Amanda Foote, chair of National's Arlington Community Care Team, said. "Everyone gets into the spirit of the Holidays and we are always overcome by our Associates' generosity."
In addition to supporting the SAVE program over the holidays, National Community Care Team members also assemble gift bags for the children each spring. Bags are filled with snacks and a toy, as well as hygiene items such as toothbrushes and toothpaste.
