Milan is one of the largest cities in Italy, located in the plains of Lombardy, between the Alps and the Apennine Mountains, close to the Swiss border. Many people live in the center of the city where there is always plenty to do. There are many excellent restaurants and bars within walking distance. The Milan metropolitan area has a population ranging from 2.9 to 7.4 million.
Milan is truly a cosmopolitan city, unquestionably a fashion center of both the country and the world. Milan boasts some of the most exclusive labels around, including the fashion houses of Giorgio Armani, Roberto Cavalli and Versace. A short walk from the city center is the area known as the "Golden Triangle" where dozens of high fashion boutiques offer an array of clothes and accessories made by the very best of Milan's fashion designers.
Milan is one of the major financial and business centers of the world. The city is the seat of the Italian Stock Exchange (the Borsa Italiana) "Piazza Affari" and its hinterland is an avant-garde industrial area. Most of the country’s important corporations are headquartered there.
Milan is world famous for its football teams, AC Milan and Inter. They play on alternate Sundays at the San Siro stadium and are well worth catching.
