Operational Amplifier Product Selector Guide Software Support

Selguide Support

As with any software, there will be "bugs", errors and unforeseen problems - and Selguide is no exception. If you have a question about the operation of the software, please visit the Instructions and Tips or FAQ pages. If you are still having a problem, please read on.

Below is a list of known problems. Please review them before contacting support. Most problems are quite common and there is a good chance someone has already run across your particular problem.

Below is a list of known problems. Please review them before contacting support. Most problems are quite common and there is a good chance someone has already run across your particular problem.

 Known Problems:

  1. Receiving a message that the database is over 30 days old after just installing a fresh copy.
Verify the database creation date by looking in the Help -> About menu. Do not rely on file creation dates shown for the files. Check your system calendar and clock. Make sure the date, month and year are set correctly and verify that your system's clock battery is still good. If you are sure your clock is correct, try deleting the entire Selguide folder and install again.

  2. Left hand directory tree is missing folder icons and/or the upper toolbar contains blank buttons on some Win95 machines.

You may have an older version of COMCTL32.DLL in your system. This DLL is commonly updated by large programs or software suites (IE4/5, MS Office, etc.). Obtaining an updated DLL will generally cure the problem. Do not simply replace the old DLL with a new one from another machine - as this could be dangerous. It is better to have it updated as part of an upgrade. Visit the Microsoft site for more information. This is only a cosmetic flaw and does not affect the basic operation of the software.

  3. Results show up as only two blank gray panels with "left click.." and "right click..." text , or, device tree and results list windows do not appear. However, clicking on the "binoculars" icons causes number of components to change and search box operates normally.

The individual windows in Selguide are movable. The upper window frames, containing the product tree and results list, are erroneously collapsed closed (they are "hiding" underneeth the toobar).

Place your mouse cursor below the "Search" button, with the pointer on the border of the frame, and the pointer should turn into a resize tool (vertical arrows). When the cursor changes, click and drag ("pull") the upper window frame down.

It seems that some high end UXGA or multi-screen video card drivers are returning screen sizes that Selguide cannot understand. The code that determines the initial window placement is having problem determining screen size, which causes the top windows to be collapsed closed. We will fix this in the next software revision.
