Lower Power Consumption
The 12-bit 50 MSPS ADC12EU050 from National's PowerWise family of A/D converters consumes just 44 mW/channel--30% less power than existing ADCs--while delivering excellent 70 dBFS SNR dynamic performance as a result of its Continuous-Time Sigma-Delta (also known as delta-sigma) architecture.
Inherent Anti-Aliasing Filtering The ADC12EU050 provides significant inherent anti-aliasing filtering, which eliminates the need (or reduces the requirements) for an external anti-aliasing filter. If additional filtering is necessary, the ADC12EU050 can eliminate the need for high insertion-loss filters and filter drivers, saving system power, cost, and board space while offering an essentially alias-free Nyquist sampling bandwidth.
Quiet, Resistive Input The resistive inputs of a CTSD ADC are in contrast to the switched-capacitor inputs of most sampled-input ADCs, such as pipeline or DTSD ADCs. The much quieter input couples less noise to the overall system and reduces the requirements on the ADC driver circuits, saving system power and cost.
Integrated PLL + VCO The on-chip clock conditioner of National's ADC12EU050 provides low-jitter sampling edges to its internal SD modulator, eliminating the need for a high-performance, high-cost external clock source. The system designer needs simply to provide a moderate-quality, low-cost crystal and the on-chip clock circuitry takes care of the rest.
Integrated Instant Overload Recovery (IOR) Circuitry When the ADC12EU050's IOR circuitry is enabled, it maintains signal integrity in the event of an input overload condition, allowing it to recover faster than even a pipeline ADC.
