Hysteretic Buck Regulators

Objective: Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

Explain the differences between a Hysteretic Buck Regulator and a PWM Regulator.
Given the appropriate component values, calculate the switching frequency of a Hysteretic Buck Regulator circuit.
List two advantages of a Hysteretic Buck Regulator over a PWM Regulator.
Explain what circuit modifications could be made to enable the use of low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) output capacitors.

Description: Simple voltage mode and current mode hysteretic buck regulators. No compensation needed. How regulation is achieved. Error in the Vout. Delay in the system. How frequency is determined. Ceramic Cout in voltage mode. Real examples.
