EMI and RFI

Overview: EMI interferes with noise sensitive analog circuitry leading to erroneous readings and misleading data.  EMI is coupled or conducted and leads to hard to debug problems.  A common approach is to add a filter at the input of the op amp, but this approach can cause more problems than fix them. A superior approach is to choose an EMI hardened op amp.

Length: 19 minutes

Published Date: December 2008

Topics covered in this online seminar include:

  • EMI causes and effects
  • Susceptibility of CMOS and Bipolar Amplifiers to EMI
  • Benefits of EMI hardened op amps compared to traditional mitigation techniques
  • Calculating the impact of EMI on system performance

Note: Foils 18 & 19 should read "7 counts" instead of "7 bits"
