Synchronizing Ethernet Backhaul in Telecommunication Systems

Overview: Ethernet backhaul is a fast emerging trend in wireless telecommunication network designs. One of the biggest challenges to this adoption is the need for new synchronization techniques that can be used with a packet based network. This presentation describes a high precision approach to timing synchronization using the IEEE 1588 Precision Timing Protocol (PTP) standard and the DP83640 Precision PHYTER IEEE 1588 PTP Synchronization PHY.

Length: 32 minutes

Presenter: Alex Tan is a product marketing manager at National Semiconductor. He has been working with interface devices and on National’s Ethernet products since 2000. He has B.S. in Physics from the University of Florida, a MSECE from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and an MBA from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University.
